Which 5 concerts would you like to be included in FIVE LIVE ARCHIVES 3?

Greetings L'Arc fans,

Firstly, I would like to say L'A HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2014 marks the start of 23rd anniversary of L'Arc~en~Ciel (can't believe it's been almost 3 years since 20th L'Anniversary LIVE!) and also the release of their first (ridiculously priced) Blu-ray box set "L'Aive Blu-ray BOX" (out on 26 February 2014), containing 18 Blu-ray discs and 31 CDs. Ki/oon are getting greedy these days, it started with LIVE TWENITY (a compilation of old lives and 1 new song - what a bargain!), then all those different editions of WORLD TOUR 2012 THE FINAL each with a bonus CD, now a Blu-ray box set with an insane price tag.

I remember seeing them for the first time in 2008 in Paris. It truly was a unforgettable experience, L'Arc fans are truly an amazing group of people! The next time would be 4 years later in London in 2012 - a smaller venue but still filled with passionate fans. Of course, the Paris live has been released on DVD so I am hoping for the London gig next.

Judging by previous FIVE LIVE ARCHIVES releases, here are my predictions for the next live box set in 2016. As usual, they will ignore sakura era concerts and only focus on recent ones. Personally, I would love to see them release a FIVE LIVE ARCHIVES 0 with old concerts such as Sense of time '94, The other side of heavenly '95, Kiss me deadly heavenly '96, BIG CITY NIGHTS ROUND AROUND '96, TOUR '96~'97 Carnival of True. I have noticed that they usually release at least 2 lives from the same tour. For example:
- SMILE TOUR 2004 ~Zenkokuhen~ / LIVE IN U.S.A (the USA gig comprised mainly of SMILE tracks)
- 1999 GRAND CROSS CONCLUSION / 1999 GRAND CROSS TOUR in Tokyo Big Sight Special Stage (FLA 1) / 1999 GRAND CROSS TOUR in Osaka Cosmo Square (FLA 2)
- AWAKE TOUR 2005 / AWAKE TOUR 2005 Zenyasai "Konya Kiseki ga Okiru!?" (FLA 2)
- ASIALIVE 2005 / ASIALIVE 2005 in Shanghai (FLA 1)
- Are you ready? 2007 Mata HEART ni Hi o Tsukeru! in OKINAWA / Are you ready? 2007 Mata HEART ni Hi o Tsukeru! in Fuji-Q Highland (FLA 2)
- LIVE IN PARIS / TOUR 2008 L'7 ~Trans ASIA via PARIS~ / TOUR 2008 L'7 ~Trans ASIA via PARIS~ in Kyocera Dome Osaka (FLA 2)

Based on these facts, I have compiled 5 lives that may very likely appear in FIVE LIVE ARCHIVES 3.

Disc 1: 2008.02.07 - TOUR 2007-2008 THEATER OF KISS (国立代々木第一体育館)
Since THEATER OF KISS had only 1 DVD release in 2008, it would make sense to release another home video from this tour. The date I chose is rather special because it is the only date where P'UNK performed Dune 2008 in the tour and instead of fate, Shinjitsu to Genjitsu was the track that replaced it. It's also my birthday (February 7), although that's not really related lol

Disc 2 - 2011.01.01 - 20th L'Anniversary Starting Live "L'A HAPPY NEW YEAR!" (幕張メッセ国際展示場 9-11)
Well, this was a no-brainer - a LE'CIEL exclusive concert. It was a concert that was ahem... "streamed live" on Ustream but instead of a camera focusing on the band, it was basically showing a guy with glasses (one of the audience members who was the unfortunate target of this live stream) and other fans with the band's music in the background. Eventually, they decided to actually show the stage with hyde's MC and the last track BLESS, before the stream got cut unexpectedly and all fans weeped heavily at the company's incompetence in streaming decent footage of 1 song. I'm so happy returned after last appearing in 1997. Also interesting is the fact that Anata is the opening track.

Disc 3 - 2011.12.04 - 20th L'Anniversary TOUR (京セラドーム大阪)
Ever wondered why they released that LIVE TWENITY DVD instead of this concert? Honestly, I think they could have released both this live and the DVD compilation. Well, they must be saving it for the next box set. This is the final date of the 20th L'Anniversary TOUR. X X X was included on LIVE TWENITY. This concert was also shown in cinemas across Asia in December (yes, the same month as this live) for a limited time. Essentially, the tour comprised of the tracks from both days of the 20th L'Anniversary Live mixed with a couple with rare songs such as Fare Well, Anemone, an acoustic version of Kasou (which alternated with Anemone), and Hurry Xmas. New songs from 2011 include GOOD LUCK MY WAY as well as X X X and CHASE which were both revealed on this tour. A unique part of this tour is that a live orchestra on stage accompanied songs such as Anemone and X X X. Indie tracks (Dune, As if in a dream) also make a triumphant (but short) return in a concert tour. The last time concert tours featured Indie tracks was in '96~'97 Carnival of True (Floods of tears, Entichers) and SMILE TOUR 2004 (Yokan).

1. Fare Well

Disc 4 - 2012.05.02 - WORLD TOUR 2012 (Jakarta)
Footage of this live, along with London and New York was aired on Japanese TV. The New York one (Madison Square Garden) has obviously been released. So why did I choose Jakarta over London? If you've ever heard the Jakarta fans singing along, you'll know why (the bonus Jakarta CD in the World Tour 2012 FINAL DVD). These guys are damn loud, crazy and they sure know the lyrics to every song. I believe the band said that they would release this on DVD in the near future when interviewed in Jakarta. This seems to be a good opportunity (heck, probably their only chance) to release this concert on home video. Differences from the New York concert: Hitomi no Juunin instead of Joujoshi and the Fourth Avenue Cafe instead of winter fall.

1. いばらの涙
2. CHASE -English version-
3. GOOD LUCK MY WAY

Disc 5 - 2012.05.12 - 20th L'Anniversary WORLD TOUR 2012 THE FINAL (横浜 日産スタジアム)
I honestly don't know if they'll pick this one. They could very well go the lazy route and release Day 1 of the Kokuritsu live which aired on Japanese TV in full (but with MC's and Link cut) and is essentially ready for release at any time. But there a couple of reasons why this concert is possible. It's their first concert in Japan after travelling around the world. The setlist is mostly comprised of tracks from their 2012 album BUTTERFLY - many of these tracks were not performed on the last two extravagant Kokuritsu lives (Bye Bye, wild flower, shade of season, Mirai Sekai, NEXUS 4, BLESS). Since the album BUTTERFLY did not have an actual album tour itself, this is the closest thing with 10 of the 11 tracks in this live, with only SHINE missing (Bye Bye and SHINE alternated for different days). Oh yeah, there's also a B-side called metropolis. I'm hopeful that this gets released, it would have been nice if there was a legit album tour even if it was a few dates but I guess this is what happens when you release an album before a World Tour and hyde not giving a fack about L'Arc anymore, instead focusing on VAMPS.

1. いばらの涙

same as yours. Very nice compilation/selections/line-up. Honestly as long as it`s Laruku, no doubt, any will do, I can play their concert dvds [and all music] everyday hahaha ,but I am afraid I can`t buy this wonderful Blu-ray box, I can`t afford this time. but really hoping to have it. need to save more.
L`A Happy New year ne.
i definitely love your picks. i'd buy it right now if it was available. especially want to see L'A Happy, 2011.12.04 - 20th L'Anni, and 2012.05.12 WT shows. and Jakarta of course. but agree with your assessment on how they pick at least 2 versions of a tour to release in these special sets, so TOK is up for another date.

seriously, the powers that be need to get on with a Zero version too. i'd be happy for any shows, but you picked the better ones we get to see occasionally on YT, etc. or how about a dvd/blu-ray of Touch of Dune vhs? i know, Danger Crue release, but still.... a cleaned up disc of all [3?] of the Nostalgia "shows" shown on tv, in 94 i think, would be nice. as would some truly indie bits. ^ ^ won't hold my breath on those! but, that bit they put on the TWENITY dvd shows they have the ability. arggghh, this topic always aggravates me, i feel i have been singing this tune forever, here and there, wherever the topic would appear! lol

haha, now i see what it takes to pull me out of my cave again. good job with that. seems like forever since i last commented on this journal.. ^_^)/

edit- i am not gonna be able to go with the Blu-ray box set either. i have all of the discs in dvd already, can't afford duplicates atm. the next big thing might be something i REALLY want. Xp

"L'A Happy New Year" to all!!

I agree, they definitely have footage of all those concerts and recordings stored in their own archives. It's also obvious most of them have been kept in good condition, or at least remastered for release, judging from the early footage shown on the TWENITY box set DVD. I can't help but think it may be something to do with the sakura's image in all those concerts. Now, I'm not familiar with Japanese law and copyright, but I guess sakura may get some of the profits if they do release a box set of the concerts, TOUCH OF DUNE, or other related media. It may also involve whatever management company that sakura is also currently under. So maybe that is where things get complicated.

I am also not sure what relationship L'Arc have with Danger Crue. Both Ki/loon (L'Arc's current label) and Danger Crue are under the same production company MAVERICK DC GROUP. Also, L'Arc write all the songs themselves. So in theory, there would be no problem, right? But even if the Indie songs and videos still belong to Danger Crue, Ki/oon can sort things out with the help of MAVERICK anyway.

One thing I'm not sure is whether or not the band members realize there is such a big demand for their early concerts. If there's one member that would take action, it would be tetsuya. He is often involved with the editing of the DVD concert releases.
Just a question: why do you think 'Link' will be cut from your 5th disc prediction? Is it a trend for them to omit that song? And why?
Ah, you misunderstood me. Link was cut from the TV broadcast of the concert. They aired it in full on TV, but cut the MC parts and the song Link. If they do release it on DVD I am certain they will add those parts back. I guess they want fans to actually buy the DVD for the full experience.

They have cut songs from DVDs in the past. For example, for ASIALIVE 2005, they cut half of the songs on the DVD. In TOUR 2000 REAL on FIVE LIVE ARCHIVES, they cut ALL YEAR AROUND FALLING IN LOVE and Niji. Why? I don't know.

The only DVD I know why they cut the songs for is on "Are you ready? 2007 in OKINAWA" where they removed Bye Bye and SHINE because they haven't released those songs on CD yet.

I know they used to cut songs from home video releases because of VHS length restrictions. But starting from the THEATER OF KISS DVD, they no longer remove songs.

nice picks and nice analysis as well! it would be such a lovely box to contain those 5 lives you mention, especially the L'Anniversary Tour and WT at Jakarta!
i was lucky enough to be able to attend the Jakarta live and as for now, it's the one i want to see the most being released officially in a DVD!! >_<
i actually thought that they would have their FIVE LIVE ARCHIVES 3 released next but the label apparently chose to have that Blu-Ray box first nee *sigh*
let's hope they have something new and wonderful to release soon this year! >_<
I have a feeling they are actually saving FLA 1, 2, 3 (and 4?) and all those CHRONICLE releases for Blu-ray box sets later.
Next thing is a complete box set of all singles, then a box set of all studio albums as part of their 25th anniversary.
Then L'Arc will split up for another 5 years only to return for a short time to celebrate their 30th anniversary.

Afterwards, they will disband due to lack of communication and interest from every member in the group.

Fortunately, sakura, joined by Indie era members pero and hiro, clad in Super Sentai (Power Ranger) suits will rise from the ashes and save the band from impending doom caused by the formation of VAMPS. As a result, VAMPS will be eternally banished to the nether, where hyde will no doubt be too busy doing blood-sucking duties as a vampire, no less. sakura will replace hyde as the lead vocalist and L'Arc will finally release a new album after 10 years. ken eventually quits smoking, yukkie finally gets married, while tetsuya is still fondling his bananas. The end.

WHOA! Why do you have to be so detailed?! :O Absolutely solid list man.

I'm thinking one of the "SMILE TOUR 2004" would be a contender for the next FLA3 and most definitely one of the WORLD TOUR countries. JAKARTA would have the best chance! (Though I'd like Hawaii to be in FLA3...)

I've been missing out! I didn't realize you're making L'Arc LJ so active. I will frequent here more. Thanks Andy!

Some footages are to be kept until the insanely priced L'Aive is out, IMO. So I think FLA 3 will come next year or 2016 the latest. The concerts you picked are most likely be included and I'll be the happiest fangirl if they ever release WT 2012 Jakarta. The crowds were totally crazy. Waiting since morning (veeery early in the morning under high summer temperature) didn't seem to bother them at all. I was there to do the report and hundreds (maybe thousands?) of them already arrived on the scene. I hope they won't cut the cute MCs if WT 2012 Jakarta were to be released.

But I'm not too sure about L.A. Happy New Year though, since it's a Le-Ciel only live.
